The
Polishing Process
In
the polishing department, coarse grit
grinding on bumpers is
brought to a satin smooth finish by polishing with 180, 240
and 360 grit abrasive wheels and belts long,
flat areas on bumpers are polished using semi-automatic reciprocating
machines while the ends are polished by hand-held working of
the bumper against abrasive wheel or belt. Small
openings and contoured areas on bumpers are worked on with hand-held
polishing tools resulting in a bumper that has been prepared
on all visible external surfaces.
Repeated
inspection during polishing insures that the metal is smooth
and free of pits, lines, grinder marks or other imperfections
before the bumper is passed in to the plating department.
