BUMPER RE-CONSTRUCTION
Bumper re-construction
is accomplished by inserting metal
patches in areas which have deteriorated beyond workable condition.
Metal preparation for plating requires suitably thick metal on which
to grind and polish. Thin weak metal which has rusted through must
be replaced for a bumper to turn out acceptable. Areas of weak metal
are cut out and replacement patches shaped to match the opening
are fashioned out of bumper metal. The replacement patch is needed
in place with the weld seam being touched up during polishing to
minimize pin-holes.
This series of pictures
show the detail in the re-construction process.
